Art for Youth London’s Preview Night 2015

11th December 2015

On 5 October, Art for Youth London held its first ever ‘Preview Night’, a high ticket evening complete with canapés and champagne in the presence of UK Youth’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal. The solo platform space featured the work of young artist Kate Morgan, who had been mentored for a year after winning the Wates Foundation Diana Brooks Prize in 2014.

The Princess Royal was greeted at the door by John Deston, Event Manager of the Mall Galleries; Nigel Mansell CBE, President of UK Youth; Anna Smee, Chief Executive of UK Youth; Sam Melluish, Chairman of Art for Youth London; and Ann Mavroleon Dixon MBE, the Event Organiser. She was then given a tour of the galleries by Diana Brooks, founder of Art for Youth London; and Caitlin Mavroleon, the Creative Director, meeting artists, committee members and supporters along the way.

Amlin, AFYL’s sponsor for six years, was represented by Simon Beale, Chief Underwriting Officer and the Wates Foundation by Annabelle Elliot, and Brian Wheelwright, Director. Also in attendance were: Lady Griffiths, President of AFYL; Nicholas Bonham and Toby Ward, both Vice-Patrons of AFYL; Lord Stevenson, Patron of AFYL; Lady Meg Thomas, Vice-President UK Youth; Mrs Jake Shafran, a major AFYL ‘Angel’ donor; Mrs Caroline Yannaghas, who had kindly donated the champagne for the evening; and many other friends and supporters of the charity.

After a very moving speech and before taking her leave, The Princess Royal was presented with posies by JEM Mavroleon aged 8 and Kitty Carswell aged 6. Nick Bonham then held a fast-paced auction. Art sales totalled £57,970 for the evening and a great time was had by all.

Grateful thanks go to Bronac McNeill for capturing the evening with these wonderful photographs.
